I went with Penius on a djungeltrip to Yali Highlands. Penius was extremly nice the two first days, then when we were far in the djungel he wanted more money and turned strange. When we came to Yali he told us that he had no plane to take us back, it´s a six days hike back and we alredy paid him money. it ends with Penius leaving us in the Yali tribe alone, he went back for him self and he sold our food before leaving. We waited a week in Anggruruk until a plane landed there and took us back, pure luck. Don´t go with Penius, his a bad man.

I am sorry while listening to your story :( hope you got back home sound and safe and that despite this misadventure, you enjoyed your trip in this unique place.
I spent 5 wonderful days trekking the SE Baliem Valley with Penius. He organized 2 porters, a cook and himself to come along on the trek. I saw a fair number of locals "dressed" traditionally, enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the fresh air. The cooking was pretty good, far from as bad as I've experienced on other hikes. I'm sorry to hear about Robert's experience, but apparently that's quite a common trick amongst the guides. To prevent this insist on paying half the trek upon the booking and the other half upon the return to Wamena, along with a written contract.
